Preventing conversion of standing forest that would otherwise be cleared. Avoidance is calculated as protected stock times a jurisdictional baseline deforestation rate.
Integrating trees into agricultural systems. Sequestration ramps linearly to a plateau at year 15, then holds steady through the crediting period.
Converting forest residue biomass to biochar via pyrolysis. Each tonne of biochar sequesters approximately 2.5 tCO2e in stable form for more than 1,000 years.
Restoring or protecting coastal wetlands. Sequestration is highest in early establishment years, tapering as the ecosystem matures.
